I got nominated for the BNG WorkSpace Project Prize 2010, organized by Filmhuis Den Haag / ZAAL5, with a project proposal for an interactive light installation named ‘A Close Encounter of The First Kind’ (for which i’m still seeking funding).
WORKSPACE is the annual project competition through which ZAAL5 seeks out talented filmmakers and artists working with film, new (interactive) media, video installations, performance and visuals. ZAAL5 is the in-house project space for media arts at Filmhuis Den Haag. This multifunctional room is dedicated to programmes and projects using moving images that are not displayed in regular film halls.
I was one of the 5 selected artists (out of 45 applicants) that had to pitch his or her project proposal on the 25th of april 2010, in front of a professional jury, to win one of the two available prizes of € 9000,- for the realization and presentation of the project.

Lightroom is an interactive light/sound installation. 64 Lights are placed in a square grid on a floor filled with white shingle. The room is totally darkened when the visitor enters. By walking in between the lights, the visitor triggers the lights and influences the behaviour of the installation; the room becomes ‘filled’ with fluid-like waves of light and sound.

Film/Space is a monumental multi-channel video installation without sound. It exists of 24 projection-screens, placed in a precise spatial arrangement. The visitor walks around in a filmic landscape of continuously changing projected forms in perfect linear perspective. One’s ability to perceive space is constantly put to the test; the visitor is encouraged to view the installation from different perspectives and to see the projected images in relation to the physical space surrounding the installation.

Sonic Light was the name of the 2003 edition of the annual Sonic Acts festival. As a member of the editorial staff, i was involved in the design of the Light Box, a gigantic light-/videoprojection sculpture in the main hall of Paradiso, which served as the only light source during the festival. For different live musical performances i made RGB-lightcompositions (among others Olivia Block)

Ontleding Van Het Filmische is a performance / light installation. In this performance, a mechanical light construction is built and carefully tested, with the ultimate goal of creating one ‘cinematic’ moment. This project is an ode to the pioneers of cinema: all the artists, priests, alchemists and scientists that passionately worked on the invention of the cinematic apparatus, an apparatus that laid the base for our contemporary visual culture.
